West of Werribee, the Youth Justice Centre in Cherry Creek is Victoria's newest high-security facility for juvenile offenders. The $419m project highlights how Rondo’s complete integration of specification, design and support services form a powerful offering to achieve complex designs for higher-level compliance and government guidelines.
With international experience in designing state-of-the-art correction facilities, architectural firm HDR struck the right balance between design and functionality, producing a less “institutional” façade, helping to create a sense of purpose that stemmed beyond simply housing inmates, whilst focusing on both security and safety.
Rondo’s National Architectural Specifications Manager was engaged by HDR early in the project to assist in ensuring the design criteria of the facility met compliance and buildability requirements.
Recommendations of the most suitable system solutions required to meet the project design intent was necessary early on, to actively foresee and minimise variations, delays, and additional costs that had the potential to arise during construction.
Our Rondo KEY-LOCK® Concealed Ceiling System, Steel Stud & Track Wall Framing System, and MAXIframe® External Wall Framing System were specified to play an integral part in the construction of the projects’ critical design aspects.
Builder John Holland along with contractors Expoconti, and World Ceilings engaged the Rondo Design Team in the construction stages of the project to provide detailed designs for interior walls, large openings, external soffits and seismic ceilings.
Rondo Engineers visited site to gain valuable granular insights and understanding into the requirements of the project and to provide compliant solutions to the builder and contractor as needed, ensuring construction continued without delays.
With the assistance of our Rondo Technical Sales Representative, contractors were further supported on-site during construction with the translation of design details, and assistance with queries relating to product installation and beyond.
Close working relationships of the Rondo team with the architect, builder, and contractor was paramount to the efficiency and timeliness of the project, which is an especially important factor when working to increased levels of compliance, budgets, and time constraints.
